Millis` D.A.R.E. Officer, Sergeant McGowan
 | Sgt. Peter McGowan was born and raised in the city of Boston, and moved to
Millis in 1988. He was originally hired by the Millis Police Department as a
permanent intermittent (part-time) officer and dispatcher. He was hired full
time in February, 1996, and obtained the rank of Sergeant in April, 1998. Sgt.
McGowan is also certified as a RAD Self defense instructor, and Crime
Prevention officer. |
 | During the summer of 1999, he was chosen to be the town's next
officer, and was trained and certified in August 1999. He was certified for
the Middle School curriculum in December, 2000. Sgt. McGowan traveled to New
Jersey to be trained in the completely revised
Program in June of 2003,
and also received his certification as a School Resource Officer. |
 | Currently, the core curriculum is presented at the Middle School at the
fifth grade level. With the cooperation of the staff and the Principal,
is presented on Day 6. The Middle School program is presented to the seventh
grade in Winter/early spring, over a two week period. This coincides with
their class trip to the Norfolk County House of Correction. |
 | At the Clyde Brown School, the Principal and the teachers adjust their
schedules to allow as many classroom visits as scheduling permits. Elementary
visits emphasize safety and character issues. |
 | Sgt. McGowan is currently assigned as a patrol supervisor, working a split
